Heckscher Captures Squash Tournament

Five Crimson squash players, Ben Heckscher, Cal Place, Larry Sears, Charlie Hamm, and freshman Gerry Emmett, reached the quarter-finals of the Intercollegiate Squash Tournament in New York last week.

Heckscher eventually won, defeating Sears, 3 to 0, in the finals. In the semis, Sears defeated Yale's number one man, Harvey Sloane, and Heckscher topped Hamm. Sears turned in his top squash performance to date by toppling the number one men from Williams, Yale and Dartmouth on his way to the final. Hamm accounted for Princeton's top man, while freshman Emmett beat Yale's number two player Ed Meyer.

In the National Open Championship, Heckscher defeated national professional champion Al Chassard, 3 to1, before bowing to national amateur champion G. Diehl Mateer in a close five-set encounter.
