Lawrence G. Dethick, U.S. Commissioner of Education, said that the current number of 2,947,000 students is ten percent above last year's previous high. He reported especially large enrollment gains by teachers colleges and technological schools, and a much smaller increase in theological schools enrollments.

Among the individual numerical titans of higher education, the University of California leads the field with a total enrollment of more than 40,000 students, and the University of Minnesota follows closely with some 36,000 collegians.
