Both the J.V. and freshman basketball teams lost their respective games by two-point margins to Fort Devens and M.I.T. last night. The J.V.'s which broke their five-straight winning streak, lost 70 to 68, while the Yardlings suffered their fifth loss by a score of 77 to 75.
The J.V. was ahead at the half, 41 to 35, and was tied, 68 to 68, with the Army team until the last minute. Devens then froze the ball for 45 seconds, and the J.V.'s fouled Harry Weltman, who made two foul shots, scoring the last tallies of the game.
The Crimson as a whole played a strong game, although no one player was outstanding. J.V. high scorers were Arnie Singal and Roger Rawdon, both with 16 points. The team lost one of its best shots when Bob Repetto, who had previously scored 12 points, fouled out in the fourth quarter.
Weltman was high scorer for Devens, with 27 points, while Ron Weekley was second with 21.
The freshman game, however, was a sloppy one, with both squads missing many scoring opportunities. The contest ran into overtime when M.I.T. missed two foul shots with the score tied up at 75 apiece. The Yardlings took possession of the ball with a half-minute remaining, but muffed five tries at the basket. Then the Tech quintet took the ball and scored the winning tally.
High scorers for the freshmen were Dave Grayner, with 15 baskets, and captain Dave Scott, with 14.
