The annual Convocation Service of the Divinity School today will be marked by a special "Donor's Day" observance. Over 100 contributors to the school's endowment drive will meet with the record school enrollment of 240 students in Memorial Church at noon.
This afternoon the group will attend the dedication of the new Braun common room in Andover Hall and then inspect other recent renovations of the School. The Rev. Theodore P. Ferris, rector of Trinity Church in Boston, will speak at the dedication.
President Pusey will welcome the donors and the school's newest professor, Paul L. Lehmann, Parkman Professor of Theology, will deliver the main address, "The Context of Theological Inquiry" at the noon service. The service will be conducted by the Rev. George A. Buttrick, Preacher to the University.
Also participating in the service will be Dean Douglas Horton, Amos N. Wilder, Hollis Professor of Divinity, and a recent addition to the school's faculty, Richard R. Niebuhr, assistant professor of Theology.
The Braun common room, the outstanding school renovation since the endowment drive began, was named in memory of the Rev. Samuel John Braun (1856-1938), an important figure in American Protestantism. Funds for the room were donated by his grandson, William J. Braun, a student at the School.
Among the other changes was a remodeling of the Jewett House on Francis Avenue which will be the new home of Dean Horton.
