The University of Miami's touring tennis semi-pros will arrive at the Soldiers Field courts this afternoon at 2.30 p.m. to give free tennis lessons to six members of the varsity tennis squad.
One can never be sure of Miami's lineup--it is said that the list is chosen by drawing lots before each match--but somewhere between first and sixth singles will appear the likes of Johann Kupferburger, top Davis Cupper from the Union of South Africa, and highly ranked American stars as Al and Dave Harum, Ed Rubinoff, Allen Quay, and Larry Schaffer.
Miami is probably the top college team in the country and has no idea how to lose a match. After today's debacle, it will still be a long way from that knowledge.
The varsity will be without the services of first man Dale Junta, who injured his leg in last week's matches, and Connie Fischer, out with a sore back.
The following will be sacrificed to the great god of twelve-months-a-year-tennis, in the order of their appearance on the altar: Captain Brooks Harris, Ham Gravem, Ben Heckscher, Steve Gottlieb, Maynard Canfield, and probably Karl Purnell. Harris and Gravem will team at first doubles, followed by Heckscher and Cal Place at second and Steve Kay and Ian Gianetti at third.
Saturday, the varsity will rest up against Columbia and will probably reverse today's tragedy, on the scene of the Miami Murders.
