Down at Brown this year there will be no exam-time tippling. As a result of undergraduate "boisterousness" with the bottle during the Bruins' annual Spring Weekend, the Brown administration has shut off all alcohol taps for the rest of the academic year.
Coca Colas are still permitted, but the University has announced that "the serving of alcoholic beverages at social functions is prohibited. . ." In announcing the ban, Brown's Dean Bergethon said that he hoped the ruling would "strengthen the hand of students who oppose this kind of behavior."
So far, only minor protests to the university-wide prohibition have been reported. "I have felt that most students have understood this ban and have taken it well," Bergethon said.
