Improved Varsity Lacrosse Squad To Face Powerful Elis Tomorrow

Riding on the crest of a three-game winning wave, the Crimson lacrosse team will probably be drowned tomorrow after the wave rolls down to New Haven and into a powerful Yale squad. The varsity has won its last three contests by increasingly larger margins.

But the Elis are at least ten goals better than the Crimson on comparative Ivy scores, having defeated all four league opponents this year. Should Yale win tomorrow's contest, it will clinch the championship. Dartmouth could tie for the title if it defeats Penn and the Elis lose.

Coach Bruce Munro asserted last night that "the varsity could do well, but no matter how well we do we are still over-matched. Since Yale is leading the league and we're just out of the cellar, I don't see how we can expect too much."

Munro, his squad finally seeing daylight after nine consecutive losses, attributes the last three good Crimson showings to repeated drills on fundamentals. The attack has been sharpened considerably, and is now beginning to shoot with accuracy, as well as exhibit some form of organization.

The big problem, however, still remains with the midfield and defense. The midfielders have a tendency to tire late in a game and consequently relax. These letdowns, coupled with frequent lapses by the defense, have caused first-half leads to dwindle into defeats in at least three contests.

Munro will probably retain his successful starting lineup, with Captain Dexter Lewis, Don Dawidoff, and Larry Coburn leading the attack. Mac Hyde, Jim Gale, and Tom Draper will start at midfield, while Fred Sharf, Jim Herscot, and Leo Daley should go at defense. Sophomore Dick Mackinnon will be in the crease.
