Students planning to travel abroad this summer have been urged to come to the Hygiene Department for vaccinations. Dr. John C. Wells, assistant physician, stressed the importance of tetanus immunization, observing that when the disease is contracted, it is fatal in more than one-third of the cases.
Since the immunization procedure takes two months, Dr. Wells suggested that students begin the program soon. He also recommended booster shots for those who have previously been immunized. Dr. Wells asked students to inquire as to what immunization they needed.
The Department of Hygiene gives smallpox, tetanus and typhoid immunization free of charge, and will administer typhus and cholera immunization, though the student must purchase his own vaccine.
Miss Catherine E. Richards, head nurse at the Radcliffe Health Center, said that a similar immunization program is available for Radcliffe students at $1 or slightly more per shot, depending upon the type of immunization.
