Crimson Takes Epee As Blue Swordsmen Defeat Varsity, 15-12

The varsity fencers lost Saturday to Yale, 15 to 12, as the foil and sabre teams both lost in New Haven.

The epee continued the good form it first showed last week against Penn to down the Elis, 6 to 3. Bill Pierskalla's three victories and Doug Fitchen's pair led the division.

Dave Silbert was the only varsity sabreman to win two matches in a 6-3 defeat. Les Zukerman, one of the few lefties that the Crimson has faced, took three matches for the Elis. This second consecutive loss for the slumping sabre team dims the outlook for the division in the Intercollegiates this weekend.

The foil division's second defeat of the season dropped it from the top of the Ivy League to a three-way tie for the lead. Only Captain Steve Schneider won more matches than he lost in the 6-3 defeat. Bob Goering lead the Bulldog squad with three wins.

The Crimson jumped to a 6-3 lead in the first round, but as sabre and foil started to lose, the varsity dropped behind.
