University Debaters Will Enter National West Point Tourney

The Varsity Debate Council qualified for the third straight year to participate in the National Debate Tournament to be held at West Point next month.

James L. Kincaid '58 and Robert W. Scrivner '57 were one of the five winning teams out of 31 entrants in the New England regional competition at M.I.T. Saturday and Sunday. The judges awarded them ten out of 16 possible ballots in the eight-round tournament.

They debated alternate sides of the national topic, "Resolved: That the non-agricultural industries of the United States should guarantee their employees an annual wage."

Other New England winners who will go to the annual tournament in April include teams from Dartmouth, M.I.T., St. Anselm's, and Vermont. Last year's team from the College finished in twelfth place.

The Debate Council also sent four debaters to New York for the Tau Kappa Alpha National Debate Tournament at N.Y.U., which begins today. Kincaid and Scrivner were joined by another team consisting of Jimmie R. Sikes '57 and Robert H. King '57.

Kincaid was voted best speaker in two tournaments this year.
