Political Forum Will Present Parliament Debate Tonight

The hotly disputed Political Forum will finally hold its first program, a parliamentary assembly, tonight at 7:30 in Sever 37.

Two faculty members, John K. Fair-bank '29, professor of History, and H. Bradford Westerfield, instructor in Government, will debate the topic, "Resolved: That the United States is justified in its present policy toward Communist China, including recognition."

After the introductory presentations, the debate will be thrown open to the delegates, George M. Fredrickson '56, past president of the Debate Council, explained. Each of the nine organizations composing the Forum may have up to ten delegates, who may speak for seven minutes apiece, he added.

At the end of the parliamentary debate the delegates will vote on the resolution.

The two faculty speakers were obtained after Republican Senator Styles Bridges (N.H.) refused to appear before the Forum. His cancellation provoked charges by Forum members that John R. Thomson '56, president of the Young Republican Club, which has not joined the Forum, had interfered and tried to subvert the group.

Norman V. Tagliaferri '57 was recently elected permanent Secretary-Treasurer of the Forum.
