Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The Crimson hockey team may yet get a return invitation to the NCAA championships in Colorado. To get one, it must first defeat Boston College, presently ranked third in the East, tonight at the Arena. The face-off is at 9 p.m.
Developments in the weeks since the Beanpot Tourney, in which the Eagles defeated the varsity, 4 to 2, indicate that the Crimson has a good 50-50 chance of winning tonight.
Since the Beanpot, B.C. has lost a standout defenseman, Don Fox, through academic probation and has received several injuries in games with New York powers Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Wing Jim Tiernan has been out of action over a week, but is expected to play tonight, as are the others on the injured list, Paul Smith, Myles Cassidy, and Jack Cadagan.
Varsity at Peak
The varsity, by contrast, is in peak condition, especially now that sophomore center Bob McVey, who returned to action in the Beanpot after a long layoff, is at full speed again.
If it wins tonight, the varsity will have reversed four of its six losses to Eastern opponents in a surge after Christmas vacation that has resulted in eight victories in its last nine games.
Much will depend tonight on the varsity defense. Goalie and captain Charlie Flynn, and defensemen Mario Celi, Denny Little, Dan Ullyot, and John Copeland won't be able to afford momentary lapses against the hustling Eagles.
