Carnochan Probable Senior Tutor During Conway's One Year Leave

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

W. Bliss Carnochan '53, assistant Dean of Freshmen, will probably serve as temporary senior tutor in Eliot House next year, pending Corporation approval, it was learned last night.

He will replace John J. Conway, who has been senior tutor at Eliot since the initiation of the Allston Burr system in the fall of 1952. Conway is leaving for England on a year's sabbatical to work on 19th century British and Commonwealth history. He expects to resume his duties as head tutor when he returns.

At present, Carnochan is serving his second year as assistant Dean for freshmen whose last names fall between A and K.

An English concentrator at GSAS, his duties as dean and as a teaching fellow in History and Literature have considerably slowed his work toward a degree. He has been able to take only one or one and a half courses each year. After termination of the Eliot appointment, he expects to concentrate on his graduate work.

No successor to Carnochan's assistant deanship has yet been named.
