The junior varsity hockey team routed a hard-hitting but outclassed Arlington High sextet at Watson Rink yesterday, 11 to 1. It was the season's opener for both teams.
Junior wing John Wylde scored the first of his three goals at 1:16 of the opening period to start the 11-goal barrage. Defenseman "Whip" Filoon and senior center Tom Crowley added two more tallies before the end of the period.
The lone Arlington goal came at 3:29 of the second stanza, only seconds after sophomore wing Tony Marlow had scored to put the junior varsity ahead decisively, 4 to 0. The J.V.'s then threw away several scoring opportunities before Marlow tallied again at 19:15.
Arlington fell apart defensively in the final period and allowed the J.V.'s to get in close for shots at point-blank range. Filoon and Crowley both scored again, and Wylde got two goals. The two final tallies were made by defenseman Laurie Pratt and second line center Ed Harding.
The freshman sextet will play Arlington in its opener on Saturday.
