C.E.P. Passes Exam Typing Trial Period

Students for the first time will have the chance to type their examinations if the Faculty in January accepts a proposal of the Committee on Educational Policy, it was learned yesterday.

Dean Bundy announced that the plan, if passed, would provide for typing examinations on an experimental basis, and would probably go into eeffct in time for a trial run during forthcoming mid-year examinations.

It is uncertain either where or to what extent the plan would be implemented in January, but Registrar Sargent F. Kennedy '28 said that the second floor of the Freshman Union or a House dining hall might be available for an experiment covering a limited number of days in exam period.

Opposition is expected from some members of the faculty who feel that it is unfair to those students who cannot type to permit typists to take advantage of their speedier writing. Others feel that a choice of typing or writing is fairer than the present system, which gives an advantage to fast penmen.

The CEP passed the proposal several weeks ago, and it will be considered by the Faculty when it meets on Jan. 8. At the same meeting, the Faculty will vote on a proposed extension of parietal hours which this week received Administrative Board approval.
