Varsity Wrestlers Crush Indians In Opening 34-0 Shutout Victory

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A strong Crimson wrestling squad shut out a completely inept Dartmouth team, 34 to 0, in its first match of the season last night in the I.A.B. The varsity won by a pin in three of seven matches, while the Indians forfeited one.

The Crimson was particularly impressive in the victory, since all of the starters are untested sophomores except senior captain Bob Gilmor. The varsity was expected to take the match with little trouble, but the overwhelming decision against the Indians surprised even complacent Crimson coach Bob Pickett.

In the 123-pound class, Dave Skeels of the Crimson overcame Dartmouth captain Harry Weiss in a decision to give the varsity a 3-0 lead. Mike Abramovitz pinned Bob Crochowski with a half-nelson in the 130-pound division for five points to give the Crimson an 8-0 margin.

Noble Wins Foreit

Paul Striker outpointed Frank Davidson, 8 to 1, in the 137-pound class for a decision to bring the Crimson edge to 11 to 0. In the 147-pound section, exfreshman Crimson captain Joe Noble picked up five points on a forfeit by Indian Jim Young.

Jack Eastling decisioned John Chilson in the 157-pound class to up the Crimson lead to 19 to 0. Gilmor then pinned Bob Reuling with a half-nelson in the 167-pound division, after a bruising first fall.

In the 177-pound class, Bob Foster pinned Tim Miller with a Princeton bar to make the Crimson lead 29 to 0. Dan Leary wound up the match with a half-nelson pin over Tom Gebhart in the heavy division. The varsity's next meet will be at M.I.T. on Monday.
