City Offers Reward For Firebug Lead

An 18-year old Somerville youth, Robert Whelan, last night admitted setting the million dollar blaze at St. John's Church in North Cambridge Saturday.

The Cambridge City Council voted yesterday afternoon to offer a $500 reward to anyone giving information leading to the arrest of the person who caused the fires which razed three city churches this weekend.

The order was proposed by Councillor Al Vellucci, and was adopted unanimously by the six councillors present. Vellucci also requested that the School Board inform the Council how much rent it will charge the city for the use of the public schools, a move which was also adopted unanimously.

The School Department allows the city to use the gymnasiums and libraries in Cambridge schools and after they are used, sends a bill to the city.
