Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
The reassignment of Cambridge Police Lieutenant Daniel A. Cosgrove to an inferior post has brought sharp protests from two city councillors.
Cosgrove, one of 14 police sergeants promoted Monday to Lieutenant by the City Council, was reassigned yesterday to the post of night radio dispatcher, a job normally held by a patrolman.
Both Councillors Charles A. Watson and Alfred E. Vellucci called the reassignment "peculiar." Cosgrove, who had previously been demoted shortly after breaking up a gambling ring, had been the center of investigations both by the Council and the Massachusetts Special Crime Commission.
Vellucci "Surprised"
Vellucci said that he was "surprised" at Police Chief Patrick F. Ready's action, and promised to question City Manager John J. Curry '19. "We intend to get to the bottom of this," Vellucci said.
Watson, who ordered the first investigation, said that he would investigate the case. Watson said that he wanted to know why such a fine police officer was being pushed around. Neither Ready nor Cosgrove could be reached for comment.
