President Pusey has appointed a Committee for Harvard College to organize and direct the largest fund-raising drive in educational history, announced two weeks ago.
The committee, consisting of 33 business and professional leaders among Harvard alumni, will be under the chairmanship of Alexander M. White '25 of New York.
Pusey has named five vice-chairmen for the committee. They are: Devereux C. Josephs '15, chairman of the board of the New York Life Insurance Company; Thomas S. Lamont '21, vice-chairman of J.P. Morgan & Company; John L. Loeb '24, partner of Carl M. Loeb, Rhoades & Company, New York investment bankers; Ralph Lowell '12, president of the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company; and David Rockefeller '36, executive vice president of the Chase Manhattan Bank.
The 27-man executive committee includes: William A. M. Burden '27; Charles C. Cabot '22; Thomas D. Cabot '19; William H. Claflin '15; Lammot duPont Copeland '27; John Cowles '21; Donald K. David, former dean of the Business School; Fredrick M. Eaton '27; Marshall Field Jr. '38; G. Peabody Gardner '10; Courtlandt S. Gross '27; R. Keith Lane '22; Roy E. Larsen '21; Neil H. McElroy '25; James J. Milton '13; Arthur W. Page '05; Paul C. Reardon '32; Geoffrey S. Smith '22; Edgar B. Stern '07; Robert G. Stone '20; Paul P. Swett, Jr. '32; Philip H. THeopold '25; John E. Toulmin '25; Frederick M. Warburg '19; Frederic B. Whitman '19; George Whitney '07; and Charles E. Wyzanski, Jr. '27.
Paul C. Cabot '21, president of the State Street Investment Trust in Boston and treasurer of the University, will serve as treasurer for the committee. James R. Reynolds '23, assistant to President Pusey, will serve as program manager.
In addition to these, Pusey has appointed the following men to an advisory committee of Harvard alumni: Winthrop W. Aldrich '07, U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain; Larid Bell '04, Chicago lawyer; Walter S. Gifford '05, honorary chairman of the board of American Telephone and Telegraph Company; Joseph C. Grew '02, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan; Learned Hand '93, former judge, U.S. Circuit Court, New York; John Lord O'Brian '96, Washington lawyer; and Eliot Wadsworth '98, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
