The Reverened George A. Buttrick, preacher to the University, will offer a prayer "for liberty and peace in Middle Europe" at this morning's service in Appleton Chapel. The Memorial Church bell will also toll for two minutes at 9 a.m. "in mourning for all those who have given their lives in Hungary."
This decision was announced by President Pusey in his reply to a telegram sent to him on Sunday by the American Committee for Cultural Freedom, an organization of writers, scholars, artists, and scientists aimed at defending cultural freedom against totalitarianism. The telegram called for "a nation-wide university demonstration of sympathy for the students of Hungary."
