'Cliffe Student, Date Attacked by Youths

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A College junior and his Radcliffe date narrowly escaped serious injury Saturday night when they were attacked by a swarm of teen-agers in the Cambridge Common, police reported yesterday.

The College student was treated at Stillman Infirmary for head cuts after a running battle with eight youths that ended when he saw his date safely to her dormitory.

Police said the couple was sitting on a Common bench when the gang appeared and started to harass them. A fight started and the couple fled with the teen agers at their heels.

The incident was reported at police headquarters by Charles L. Taylor, Master of Kirkland House.

Much criticism in the past has been directed at the police for not patrolling the Common more in the evening. There were no police anywhere in the area during the fight Saturday night.
