The Fly Club's garden and parking space as well as an empty lot owned by the University on Holyoke Place figured in yesterday's proposals by Councilor Al Vellucci to solve the parking space shortage.
Vellucci submitted an order, promptly referred to committee by the City Council, requesting the City Manager to negotiate with the Fly's trustees and with the University for the purchase of the three lots. If the present owners "refuse to cooperate," the order said, the land is to be taken by the right of eminent domain and made available for free night parking.
Vellucci claimed that Planning Coordinator John W. Teele '27 and the Administration were not "sincere" when they promised to "tackle the parking problem" and then "beat Cambridge to the punch by buying land secretly for other purposes." The Councilor was referring to the projected sale of the lot behind the Fly Club to the University for a "new building."
