Boston Record columnist Dave Egan '23, yesterday lashed out at Ivy League football, claiming that it "bilks" the public. He followed up his remarks on the league with a blast against "Harvard's fraudulent football."
Egan predicted "the public will rebel" against the Ivy League football. He stated that spectators know what is good and will not put up with "squat-tag" football. Throughout the column the University graduate reiterated that New Englanders did not have to be told they were being gypped.
Egan said, "I don't think that I need tell all comers about the nefarious plot of the Ivy Leaguers to short-change and skin them. They know." He said further that the League "will feel the sales resistance. It should. It is the leader in the plot to shenanigan the public out of its money."
He praised the public for recognizing the worth of the greyhound racing, which draws "more people than the Red Sox." "They found out about it without any help," according to Egan. He cited the low attendance at Harvard games as a sign that the public is catching on to the "fraud."
Egan wrote disdainfully about Boston College's "professional operations," but offered no solution to non-professional Ivy League teams for improving the quality of their football.
