Wesleyan scored two quick goals Saturday to hand the Crimson soccer team its third straight defeat, 2 to 1, at Middletown. Robin Magowan scored the lone Harvard marker.
The Crimson trailed, 2 to 0, before its attack was fully organized, and subsequently dominated in the contest. Magowan managed to push across his goal in the third period, but otherwise the Crimson shooting was ineffective despite major improvement in passing.
Sam Freeman opened scoring early in the game, and Bob Chase added a goal for Wesleyan shortly before the end of the first period. The Crimson attack began to function in the second quarter, but Wesleyan defensemen broke up all scoring opportunities.
In the second half, the Harvard forwards kept the ball almost entirely in enemy territory.
Coach Bruce Munro was not entirely disappointed over the loss. "We got off some good shots and had good passing," Munro stated, "but were just plain unlucky. We made some mistakes which were costly, but we looked a lot better on our offense."
