John Tucker Murray '99, professor of English emeritus, and noted authority on Elizabethan and Jacobean drama, died last Friday in California, at the age of 80.
Murray was on the faculty here for more than 25 years. He became a full professor in 1929. His most important work was "A History of English Dramatic Companies."
According to J. Douglas Bush, professor of English, Murray "had a considerable share in the guidance of the Tutorial Board in English" when it was begun in 1924.
Professor Murray played leading roles in a wide range of University activities. He was Chairman of the English Department and was president of both the Harvard Faculty Club and the Cambridge Folk Lore Society.
