Offer of $80 Averts Cheerleader Strike

The Department of Athletics headed off growing discontent among the College's nine cheerleaders on Thursday by offering $80 to finance a four-man excursion to Cornell this weekend. The Department had planned to pay for only two cheerleaders.

Earlier, a combination of lack of student response and a shortage of funds had led the cheerleaders to consider not appearing before at least one football crowd this fall, as a means of stirring up alumni support.
