Cohen and Dillard to Meet in BAA; Two-Mile Relay Team Seeks Mark

Despite exams and several minor injuries, the track team will enter a full complement of men in the annual Boston Athletic Association Meet in the Boston Garden, at 7:15 tomorrow evening.

Joe Cohen will have his second chance in three weeks to catch the mercurial Harrison Dillard in the 45-yard high hurdles. Although he has been hampered by a slight log injury and a cold, Cohen might pull an upset, as he has been running better than at any other time during the season. Ed Carter will also enter.

Much of the varsity's hope will be placed in the two-mile relay team which will run against Providence, Boston University, and Yale. The latter ran a 7:58 in the Knights of Columbus Meet two weeks ago. Since this is the varsity record for this event, in order to win, the varsity will have to break its own record. Leading off for the varsity will be Ottis Gates, with Ken Wilson, second, and Phil Williams, third. Jim Cairns will anchor in this event.

In the mile relay, the varsity will again race against Yale and Princeton, plus unknown quantity, Colgate. As injury to Al Wills has forced a substitution of Jim Cairns in the quartet which defeated Yale and Princeton in the K. of C. Meet. Mike Robertson will lead off, with Cairns second. French Anderson will run the third leg, with Dick Wharton anchoring.

Wharton in 880

Wharton is entered in the Bill Bingham 880 against Bob Skerritt and Bob Schaller of Yale, and Gene Ellis and possibly Fred Dunbury of B.U. Schaller won the K. of C. 500, beating Cairns by a step. According to coach Bill McCurdy, Wharton has been looking so good in practice that he has a good chance of winning this event.

Joel Landau, who is considered one of the most talented freshmen track stars in years, will have tough competition in the 50-yard dash, as he is running against Rod Richards, winner of the Pan-American Games last year, and Art Pollard, Penn State ace.

The freshman relay team will show some changes, with Lee Barnes and Al Gordon running of those who competed in the K. of C. Meet. Barnes will lead off, Dave Rosenthal will run second, Bill Gillen, third, and Gordon will anchor.

McCurdy will also enter Jack Murphy in the high jump against Ernie Shelton and Phil Reavis, two of the best high-jumpers in the world. Two freshmen, Barrett Churchill and Dick Williams will pole vault against Bob Richards and Don Laz.
