LET THERE BE LIGHT

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

The Reactionary Society would like to publicly express its outrage at the biased, incomplete and distorted stories of the activities of the Society which are being spread by the left wing journalistic minority of the College, in particular by the Harvard CRIMSON, the Times-Republican and WHRB.

We would like to take this opportunity to denounce the attempts being made by these groups, and by the insidious dissident faction of the society led by Jay Murley and his New True Conservative Legion, who are trying to subvert the true purposes of the organization under a cloak of "humorous crockery." The Reactionary Society is firmly committed to a belief of freedom of the personal will which can only be obtained through a strong reactionary, conservative movement. Liberal groups which parade under conservative guise and with so-called conservative leaders, like the Harvard New Conservative Club led by William Brady and the Harvard Young Republican Club bossed by Johnny Thomson, are a threat to true conservatism and a danger to the American political system and the American way of life. To illustrate the point, one need only observe the support Mr. Brady has shown for the collectivist political forum and the wildly liberal tendencies exhibited by the Republican's newspaper in its coverage of the Democrats and the Social-Democratic Forum.

In order to dispel the confusion which has been caused by the erroneous stories spread by the CRIMSON and Times-Republican spies, the Reactionary Society would firmly and publicly like to express the principles which led to the formation of the Society.

1. We abhor and oppose the subtle, creeping tendencies of all forms of liberalism, moderate republicanism and progressive conservatism.

2. We believe that the best government is the government that does the least for the people, and therefore, we oppose the welfare state in all its forms and ramifications.

3. We stand firmly for freedom of the personal will as expressed by a system of absolute laissez-faire enterprise.

4. At the college level, we are firmly committed to a policy of watchful surveillance of the activities of the faculty and student political political organizations. (This policy of watchful surveillance is not to be confused with spying, which we, like all true Americans, can only find repulsive.)

5. On the national level, we oppose anti-trust laws, the existence of labor unions, the reliance on social security and the movement toward a welfare state in all its forms including such insidious measures as the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Child Labor Law.

6. On the international level, we are firmly opposed to all forms of international obligations, including the United Nations; we oppose foreign aid and particularly are critical of the announced increase in the administration request for foreign aid; we denounce the statements by influential figures in government that the United States should exhibit greater friendship toward collectivist governments like the Soviet Union and Great Britain.
