'59 Actors Form Initial Freshman Dramatic Group

With the formation of the Harvard Freshman Theater Group, '59 has become the first freshman class to have its own drama organization. The group's first production will be Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night."

The play will be directed by S. Heilpern Randall '59, assisted by Marcullus B. Winston '59. The casting has already been completed, with parts to be learned by Feb. 1. Rehearsals will start soon after this date, and the play will run at Agassiz, April 18-21.

The club was born when several freshmen who had played bit parts in the HDC production of Macbeth thought they would benefit by the experience which they could gain in a production of their own, and spoke to John A. Ballard, proctor in Thayer Hall, who agreed to help them get started.

Ballard spoke to F. Skiddy von Stade '39, Dean of Freshmen, who gave the permission necessary for the club's formation, and soon the drama organization was joined by several small groups which had been working independently with the same idea in mind.
