Last Maids Remain With Eliot, Dunster

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Maids will continue to clean the rooms in Eliot and Dunster Houses for the remainder of the year, "as far as we now know," Arthur D. Trottenberg. Operating Manager of Houses and College Dormitories, said yesterday.

Student porters now clean in Kirkland House, which lost its maids this summer, leaving only Eliot and Dunster as reminders of one-time "gracious living" in the College. About 15 additional student porters have been hired this fall, bringing the total to 80 in the College.

The University will eventually replace all maids with student porters. Besides cutting costs, the system also provides additional jobs for undergraduates.
