Smith College authorities said last night that their rigid polio quarantine will be lifted at noon on Friday, Sept. 30.
Unofficial reports from Mount Holyoke College, where the same restriction is enforced, indicated similar action, although no decision will be made until Friday.
The Smith announcement came despite a report from nearby Amherst College that a third case of polio had been discovered.
