Seavey Receives Degree at Tulane

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Tulane University accorded Thomas a. Seavey '06, retiring Professor of LAw, an honorary doctor of law degree at its Commencement exercises in New Orleans yesterday.

Seavey has taught law for 49 years, 28 of which were spent at the University. He also taught at Tulane from 1914 until 1916. While there, Seavey helped form the Southern Law Quarterly, which later became the Tulane Law Review.

Tulane's citation accompanying the degree recognized Seavey as a master of the dialectic method of instruction. The citation also said that his use of the "frustrating question and gentle irony" had given his students an added inducement to clear thought.

The award concluded by stating that Seavey had the respect and affection of his colleagues while maintaining a vigorously analytical and often critical view of legal opinions.
