Four Seniors Get Grants to Pursue Study of Theology

Four College seniors have received Rockefeller Brothers Theological Fellowships for one year of graduate study, President Pusey, head of the program, announced yesterday.

The students are: Dennis E. Brown '55, of Dunster House and Iowa City, Iowa; William R. McKaye '55, of Lowell House and Washington, D.C.; Roger N. Pierce '55, of Dunster and Inglewood, Calif.; and Paul C. Rettig '55, of Dunster and Pittsburgh, Pa.

The fellowships, given for the first time this year, are financed by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and administered through the American Association of Theological Schools Fund, Inc.

The grants are based on the assumption that "there is reason to believe the Christian ministry could be challenging and rewarding to many more first-rate college graduates than have in recent generations been inclined to give it serious thought," Pusey said.

The four University students are among 47 Americans and Canadians who have received the fellowships for the 1955-56 academic year. The awards are designed to stimulate interest in the ministry among college graduates in doubt as to their choice of a careen. The award winners represent 15 denominations and will study at 18 member schools of the American Association of Theological Schools.

"It is our hope," Pusey said, "that this program will do something to match a few more especially talented young people against a present major shortage in our society, and in so doing show them a way to constructive lives through the churches."
