Crimson intramural champions dispelled some of the wide-spread gloom recently pervading in varsity ranks by annexing the Harkness Trophy awarded annually for House-College competition against Yale.
Wins in tennis and golf boosted the House record to six victories against five losses in the various fall, winter, and spring sports.
Lowell's tennis squad, which tied Kirkland's 5-1 season record but beat the Deacons Friday in the final House match of the season, topped Yale's Davenport 4 to 3 in smooth style in the only House-College match played in Cambridge over the weekend.
Led by number one man Lou Klein, Eliot's golfers defeated Calhoun College 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 on the Yale course.
The two Crimson losses did not affect the race for the Harkness Trophy. Adams' softball team, unbeaten House champions, bowed to Pierson College, 14 to 6. In baseball, Winthrop, co-winner with Leverett in the House league and sporting a 5-1-1 record, was soundly trounced by Yale's Berkeley by a 13-4 score. Leverett was unable to field a team for the New Haven trip so Winthrop represented the College.
