The Ivy League yesterday took another step towards activating formal competition in sports between its eight schools.
Standings in the Ivy soccer, wrestling, and lacrosse leagues will be determined on a point basis similar to that used in hockey when these leagues go into effect next season, Thomas D. Bolles, chairman of the Ivy Group Administrative Committee, announced yesterday.
Under the system a team earns two points for a victory and one for a tie. Losses do not affect a team's standing except to decrease the opportunity to score points. Ivy League hockey, like all hockey, has used this system for years.
The other official Ivy Leagues starting next year, football, basketball, fencing, and squash, will determine standings on the percentage of wins and losses.
