Lacrosse Team Ties Pennsylvania 11-11 in Double Overtime Contest

Despite a double overtime of ten minutes, Saturday's Crimson-Penn lacrosse game ended in an 11-11 deadlock. There was no scoring during the overtime.

Mike Hummer of the Quakers hit the Crimson goal for the initial point of the game at 2:45 in the first period. The Crimson quickly retaliated, however, when Maclay Hyde of the midfield tied the game at 3:50. From then on, the contest was played fairly evenly with the varsity edging Penn at the half, 7-5. In the second half the Quakers rallied and scored six goals to the Crimson's four.

The Crimson suffered by the absence of Don Dawidoff, attack, and Pete Palches of the midfield, although both Ed Ansin, who substituted for Dawidoff, and Tim Draper, in for Palches, played good ball. The necessary coordinated in midfield and attack was lacking, however, since neither Ansin nor Draper had played much this year.

Captain Dexter Lewis and attackman Larry Coburn led the varsity point totals with four tallies apiece.

These four additional points give Lewis a scoring total of over 35 points so far this season. Two years ago Phil Waring, Crimson attackman, led the nation with 51 tallies. Lewis still have seven games to go. If his present game average of four point continues, he should top Waring's mark and possibly rank first in the nation this season.

The freshman team lost its second game in three last Saturday to Tabor Academy, 10 to 9. Although the Crimson led throughout most of the game, Tabor rallied in the last quarter and outscored the freshmen three to one.
