New Hookup Connects PA System In Sanders With Other Buildings

A public address system will now make it possible for lectures in Sanders Theater to be heard by audiences in Memorial Hall and two other University buildings, Richard H. Dow, assistant chief electrician, said yesterday.

The hookup between the auditoriums was arranged to avoid recurrences of the near-riot which occurred last November when more than 5,000 people had to be turned away from Arnold J. Toynbee's lecture, Dow said.

Police told the CRIMSON at the time, that the disturbance could have been avoided if thee had been loudspeakers in Memorial Hall for those who could not get into Sanders.

The three lecture rooms now connected with Sanders are Memorial Hall, the New Lecture Hall, and Allston Burr Hall. In Memorial Hall, an amplifier and a loudspeaker have been installed and connected to the existing public address system in Sanders.

Underground lines will carry lectures in Sanders from the control booth there to the New Lecture Hall and a telephone system makes two-way communication between the buildings possible. Another link to lecture rooms A and B of Burr will accommodate an even larger audience. The connection between Sanders and Burr Hall has been made by WHRB's underground circuits.
