Only ten students came last night to the first extensively-publicized meeting of the Student Council in two years in the Kirkland House Junior Common Room. Despite the small attendance following the distribution of posters throughout all undergraduate dormitories, Council President Richard L. Dodds '56 said that the Council will probably plan another meeting of this kind next year.
The Council voted last night to revise its financial aid awards to include three annual beneficiary aids of $300 to $500, rather than giving many gifts of from $5 to $50 as under the present system.
Beginning next year the aids will go to needy undergraduates who have been prominent in extra-curricular activities, irrespective of their academic grades.
The International Activities Committee of the Council is currently interviewing the 800-odd foreign students here to determine their satisfaction with the University, Stefan S. Anderson '56, committee chairman, announced in a preliminary report. The survey is part of a project, undertaken in cooperation with the Foreign Students Office to consider the adequacy of the University's services for foreign students.
The Council also approved a motion to sponsor a forum during Academic Freedom Week, April 22-29, and approved the constitution of the Social Democrat Club, which is affiliated with the National Students League for Industrial Democracy, an admittedly Leftist, though non-political, group.
