Pitirim A. Sorokin, professor of Sociology and Chairman of the Sociology Department from 1931 to 1944, will retire on August 31, the University announced yesterday. He will continue to direct the University Research Center in Creative Altruism which he founded in 1949.
Born in Russia in 1933, Sorokin received his doctor's degree in Sociology from the University of St. Petersburg.
