Chrities Total Reaches $5,650

This year's Combined charities drive is yielding a smaller return than the 1954 drive at the two-day mark, committee cochairmen David M. Dorsen '56 and Edward M. Strasser '56, announced last night.

So far 1,171 undergraduates have contributed approximately $5,650. This is about $300 less than the second-day total for last year.

"If we are going to make our goal of $25,000, we will have to collect considerably more money from the College in the next three days," Strasser said.

At present Eliot is leading the Houses both in the total amount given and in the number of contributors. Almost $1,000 has been collected from 174 Eliot House members. Following behind Eliot are Lowell, Winthrop, and Kirkland in that order.

Forty-two percent of the freshmen have contributed, giving the Yard the best record for the number of students donating. Almost 1,800 has been collected from the Yardlings.

Returns from the graduate schools and commuters are not yet in, and Dorsen expected these totals to add considerably to the present amount.
