Eliot Beats Leverett, Lowell For House Wrestling Crown

Eliot took the House wrestling championship for the third straight year last night at the I.A.B. Wins in three of eight title matches gave the Elephants 24 points to top Leverett, second with two wins and a second place for 15 points. Lowell took third with 13 and Dunster won fourth place with 7.

Winthrop's John Hey took the 157-lb. match from Bob Schoenberg of Eliot to score the Puritan's only win. Dave Royce of Lowell pinned Kirkland's Marshall Berman in 1:45 of the second period to win the 123-lb. title.

In the 137-lb. division, Bob Holmes of the Bunnies beat Winthrop's Bob McLaughlin 7-0, taking a near fall in the closing seconds with a well-executed guillotine.

Eliot's John Cole overcame last year's 147-lb. champ, Bill Schoeberlin 2-0 on the strength of an escape in the last 30 seconds of the last period.

Anderson Beats Gaynor

In the 167-lb. division, Charley Harding of the Bellboys wrapped the Funster's Bill Miller in a guillotine for a pin in 1:30 of the second period. Tim Anderson of Eliot, division titlist for the last two years, won an 8-3 decision over Pete Gaynor of Leverett in the unlimited bout. Gaynor, who pinned his three opponents in the preliminaries, moved surprisingly fast for his 300-plus pounds, scoring a reversal and an escape over Anderson.

In the Yardling tournament, Thayer North led Hollis, 9-8, with the 177-lb. match postponed until this afternoon. Al Leavitt of Hollis pinned Jim Wheeler in the second period of the 147-lb. match and Ted Raymond of Wigglesworth East got a fall from Bill Gill of Matthews North.
