Squash Team Defeated By Yale in Hemenway

The varsity squash team ended information, mediocre season with a 7 to 2 loss to Yale Saturday, before Hemenway's Gym's best crowed of the season.

The match was not as one-sided as the score would seem to indicate, however, for in for of the matches the varsity lost by 3-2 score. Despite the absence of two regulars, Captain Bill Wister and sophomore Cal Place, Crimson Coach Jack Barnaby felt "the team played quite well; there were no easy wins."

Ben Heckscher, number one, and Mike Levinson, at seven, were the Crimson victors, Heckscher winning 3 to 1 and Levinson 3 to 0. The victory gave Heckscher a 9-2 record in League play. He also won the New York Squash Club tournament during Christmas vacation and was runner-up in the intercollegiates. Levinson playing his best squash of the season, had little trouble in gaining his fifth straight win.

At two, Guy paschal lost, 3-2 to Warren Zimmerman, despite some very fine drop shots. Zimmerman is usually the Elis number one player but played two since he had already lost to Heckscher twice this year in tournament play.

The varsity's Bob Brown after winning the first game from Yale captain Brooks Ragen 15 to 4, lost the next three while "Bats" Wheeler playing two places above his regular six position, won 59 points from Fred Gardner but lost, 3-1.

Pete Milton dropped only his second match of the season to Dave Englander, 3 to 1, while Roger Cortesi at six lost 3 to 2 John Meyer.

In two very close match Crimson substitutes Charley MacVeagh and Martin Heckscher, at eight and nine respectively, lost to their opponents by 3 to 2 scores. Neither had previously played in a match.

Freshman Win

The freshman team edged the Eli yearlings, 5 to 4 in the match played at the same time as the varsity contest.

Larry Sears scored the most decisive Crimson victory at number two 15-4,. 15-6, and 15-12. Henry Cortesi also won in straight games.

The match was decided when Joel Reynolds registered the fifty Crimson win in his eighth position match, 8-15, 15-10, 15-8 and 15-13. Robin Magaowan defeated his Eli counterpart in four games where John Davis was pushed into five games by his Blue opponent.

Three of the your Yardlings who lost carried their matches to five games. Captain and number one man, Ken Mclntosh, was defeated by Yale's Bill Barhite, 9-15, 15-11, 15-10, 12-15 and 15-10. Albie Zimmerman and Dick Weinberg seventh and ninth men respectively, also bowed in the last game.

George Leness, number six, lost the fourth Crimson point in a close four game match.
