Ernest Kitzinger, associate professor of Byzantine Art and Archaeology, has been appointed Director of Studies at the University's Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington. He will assume his duties on July 1, 1955 succeeding Professor A. M. Friend of Princeton,
In his new post he will direct the center's research in early Byzantine art, history, literature and theology.
Dumbarton Oaks has a library of over 48,000 volumes and much additional research material on early Byzantine and Christian art. The center was given to the University in 1940 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woods Bliss.
