Crippled Crimson Varsity Meets Eli In Squash Today

An underdog varsity squash team meets a good Yale squad in its final match at 2 p.m. today at Hemenway Gym.

Both teams have lost only two matches this year, to Princeton, the National Intercollegiate Squash League champion, and to Navy, but the varsity has recently lost the services of two top players, Captain and number two man Bill Wister and number five Cal Place.

In compiling a 10-2 record, the Blue has defeated Army (6-3), Amherst (8-1), and Penn. Dartmouth, Trinity, and Williams were all beaten by 9-0 scores. The varsity had a harder time with Williams (5-4), an easier time with Army (7-2), and a similarly good time with Dartmouth (9-0), in establishing an over-all record of 8-2.

To replace Wister and Place, Coach Jack Barnaby has moved Guy Paschal up to number two and the remaining regulars up two positions, inserting Charley McVeagh and Martin Heckscher at eight and nine respectively. Neither McVeagh nor Heckscher has played in a match this season, but McVeagh, unofficially playing the number ten man of most of the varsity's opponents, has been undefeated.

In the number one match, Crimson sophomore Ben Heckscher, who barely missed winning the Intercollegiates a week ago, will play Warren Zimmerman for the third time this year. Heckscher eliminated Zimmerman from two tournaments earlier in the season by 3-1 and 3-2 scores. Paschal faces the Eli captain, Brooks Ragen, at two.

At three, Bob Brown will oppose Ned Vare, and "Bats" Wheeler plays Fred Gardner in the number four match. Pete Milton, Roger Cortesi, and Make Levinson will face the remaining Elis.

The Yardling squash team plays host to the Yale freshmen at 2 p.m. today on the Hemenway courts. Led by Captain Robin Magowan, the Crimson will be looking for an upset to improve on its record of two wins and three losses.
