Badly Weakened Wrestling Squad Enters Easterns

Opposition, probation, and injury make a seventh or eighth place the best that Coach Bob Pickett's varsity wrestlers can hope for in the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships at Penn State today and tomorrow.

Pickett will send a seriously weakened squad against some of the best teams in the country, including top-rated Navy, Lehigh, and Penn State. "We are going for the individual experience, not team score," he explained.

The Crimson must face the season's toughest competition minus undefeated sophomore Bob Gilmor (167) and unlimited Bob Wynne. Both are on probation. Also, Phil Andrews (130) will be out with a shoulder injury which dates from the Springfield match, Feb. 26.

Best individual prospects are captain Ken Culbert (177) who finished fourth in last year's Easterns, Phil Burnaman (137), Pete Morrison (unlimited), and Ed Keating (123).

Other Crimson entries are less strong. Len Miller (157) is winless and sophomore Casper Cronk (167) lost his only bout in Saturday's Yale match. Mike Holmes will replace Andrews at 130, and sophomore Dave Jordan will wrestle at 147.

This is the Crimson's 21st trip to the 52 year-old championships.
