Wigglesworth East won the second-half National League championship in the freshman intramural basketball race last night with a 42-34 victory over Straus South. Pete Dwan led the Wigg team with 14 points in the IAB game.
Tonight at 7:15 Wigg East will play Grays, the second-half American League winner, for the second-half Yard title.
The winner will meet Hollis, first-half champ, for the season crown tomorrow night.
Wigg started slowly in last night's game, and Straus went ahead, 11 to 6, midway in the first half. Rebounding put Straus ahead, but Wigg came back on two side push shots by Jack Bitzer, and a lay-up and foul by Dwan to lead, 13 to 11. Straus tied the score at 13 to 13 on Charley Atkinson's lay-up, but Wigg soon went ahead, where it stayed, holding Straus even in the second half after a 23-16 halftime lead.
Dwan was high scorer with 14 points. Bitzer had 11 and Hall Ross eight for Wigg. High man for Straus was John Ellefson with 11.
