The varsity basketball team finds itself is the favorite's role for the first time since its opening game, when it meets a weak Boston College squad tonight in the I.A.B. The freshman team opens the doubleheader at 6:30 against the B.C. cubs.

Coach Floyd Wilson is expected to start Dick Hurley and Phil Haughey at the forwards, "lke" Canty at center, and Roger Bulger and either Bob Hastings of Bob Barnett at the guards. It will be only the second starting assignment for sophomore Canty, who took over at center when Harry Sacks quit he squad prior to the Columbia game.

Boston College, which lost the nucleus of a strong team last year at graduation, has won four and lost 18 games so far. Loading the Eagle scoring are Dick skefington, Phil Powdel, and Tom Cullinane.

The varsity will be aiming for its fifth win tonight. The Crimson, which has lost ten games--six against Ivy League opponents--came within six points of upsetting second place Columbia last Saturday. The team's lone league win came last December against Brown.

The freshman team faces more difficult competition in the preliminary. coach Bruce Munro rates the B.C. freshmen as the toughest team his squad has met this season.
