Junior Pete Morrison--he had to pin for the varsity to win--slipped on an arm and head-lock pinning hold with 45 seconds gone in the second period against Columbia Saturday afternoon on Morning side Heights.
His victory gave the varsity a 15 to 14 win over the Lions, the Crimson's first in the last three meets. It came after previously undefeated Captain Ken Culbert (177) lost a 6 to 5 decision to Dale Granger, Columbia's heavyweight power-house.
The varsity earned its other points on a decision by Jim Dale (157), a pin by Phil Burnaman (137), who is making his debut with the team this season, and a draw match by Bob Gilmor (167). In typical procedure, the team had to rebound from lightweight defeats to overtake the Lions.
Both lightweights Bob Holmes (123) and Phil Andrews (130) lost shut-out decision. Frank Baker (147), who returned to the varsity after early-season injuries, dropped a one-sided decision to Columbia Captain Harry Scott.
At Loomis, three freshmen--Reynolds Golden, Bill Marbury, and Jim Bush--pinned as the Yardlings defeated the schoolboys, 25 to 9. Captain Charlie Eaton and Fred Kullman wrestled their opponents to a draw.
