Fencers Defeated In Three Matches

Columbia turned back the fencing team, 17 to 10, yesterday in New York to hand the Crimson its third defeat of a three-match New York trip. The team had finished fourth in the Tetragonal Meet at the New York Athletic Club Saturday, and was upset by New York University Monday, 14 to 13.

Against a strong Columbia team the varsity managed to take only the epee. The 5 to 4 victory was highlighted by Walt Rawls' three straight wins. In foil, Columbia won, 5 to 4, and the Light Blue took the sabre, 8 to 1.

Monday's N.Y.U. match was not so close as the score would indicate. The Crimson rallied to take the last five matches after N.Y.U. had clinched the victory with a 14 to 8 lead.

The Tetragonal meet went to Navy, the Midshipmen winning 54 matches. Princeton was second with 43 wins, and Yale third with 37, while Harvard trailed with 28 victories. The top individual performances for the Crimson were recorded by Rawls and Bill Pierskalla, who tied for third in the individual epee.
