Yale Suspends Men For Cutting Classes

Yale penalized 73 students for excess class-cutting during the fall term.

The penalty inflicted by the Dean's Office was to take away one term course credit from each of the 73 delinquent students. This lost course must be made up by either taking a sixth course during the spring term or by reading books from a special reading list during the summer and then passing an examination on these books in September.

Seventy-three violators was a large increase from previous years. This was due, according to an associate dean, to "more thoroughness on the part of the Dean's Office."

Yale appears to have a double standard for administering punishments. For one type of offense, a student must take an extra course; for the other he must not attend class.
